What are homemade frugal gift ideas for an 8 year old boy? Santa will be taking care of the wish list. What are some things big or small, but frugal frugal frugal that I can make/give my 8 year old son? I'm very low on funds this year and I'd rather Santa take the credit, while it lasts, on the items my son has asked for.

What is the most frugal thing you do? What is the most frugal thing you do? Ive heard of ppl saving tin foil and using it again, washing out sandwich bags and so forth. My husband and I are blessed in the fact we are finanically secure and HATES that I do this he says he is in fact "embarrased the postal people see it". I go online to www.walmart.com to the "in stores now" free sample section and get free samples of things. Everything from deoderant (i have 5 little 1/2 samples) to lotions and so forth.
At what point does a rich person stop being frugal? I know this lady who makes a lot of money (a lot) and she works very hard for it. With her well earned money she buys herself huge (huge) diamond rings, goes on many vacations, buys the best clothes, and has a few cool cars. Now she's looking to buy a lake house in addition to her 3000 square foot house overlooking the river. She says she's frugal because she lives below her means, not getting into debt at all. Does "frugal" apply in this case? Does being frugal mean you're always budgeting for groceries or having to save for the smallest luxuries?

What are some good frugal meals for 10 people? Essentially I would like to know some very cheap menu for 10 people (three meals a day for a week). Please offer me some of your insight on how to pull it off. Thank you in advance. :-)
What are some frugal tips your parents or grandparents taught you? All the talk is about the importance of recycling, but the first tenet in the conservation creed is "Reduce." We have gotten away from many ways of life our parents and grandparents lived (thankfully, some of them -- e.g. only bathing once a week) and with our big, expansive homes, have forgotten how to live frugally. What are some frugal practices you grew up with? For example, keeping the thermostat set low in winter and wearing a sweater around the house. Opening the windows and running a fan instead of using the air conditioner. Closing vents off in unused rooms during heating/cooling seasons. Saving old bits of soap and either melting them down or smushing them against the new bar of soap. Reusing birthday candles. Limiting long distance phone calls. Turning off lights as you leave a room.

Is it best to live a frugal lifestyle? Trying to make the most of what you have Not excessing on anything material Repairing old things instead of buying new etc Income shouldn't have anything to do with it. Everybody should try to live as commonly as possible. I'm not saying extra income can't mean a few extra comforts, but does extra income mean buying things you don't need and wasting?
What kind of car should I get - frugal learner driver in city? Don't laugh - I'm in my early thirties and have to grow out of catching taxis and get my licence! I have to buy my first car or I will never learn. I'm very scared of driving (dangerous experiences years ago when learning). I'm even more scared of going into a car dealership and having smarty pants sales people laugh at me and give me a bad deal becuase I'm ignorant. I think I need a small but solidly built (in case of accidents), cheap but made to last and very fuel economical car. What models would you recommend and if I am looking at used cars what should I be aware of that will need checking? Thanks
What are your unique ways of being frugal? Not talking about cutting down on lunches (although it saves tons of $) or separating need vs want. Just unique ways to make things stretch a little.... For Example: sometimes, when money's tight, I microwave that slither of bar soap for 10 seconds in the microwave. It puffs up into a bigger size, lathers better, and it saves me bundles. I also use kitchen products, like olive oil, to get rid of makeup. What do you guys do?
Does anyone know any good ancedotes regarding frugal lifestyles? For example, I once saw an interview on Tv with a public school teacher who had saved $250,000 by the time of her retirement. She said she reuses aluminum foil (after washing it off) to avoid buying more. I love stories like this. Only the most tight-fisted examples, please!
What are your best frugal living tips? I have read a lot of books on frugality, but I'm always interested to know what other people have come up with to make their money stretch. Please share your thrifty thoughts! Thanks!
