Close to serving time, start to cook the tagliatelle (it won't take long if fresh) and stir-fry the cabbage in some olive oil and butter - you wont need any more water, that which clings to the cabbage is fine. The cabbage should be cooked but crisp. The aim is to have roughly equal volumes of pasta and cabbage.
When they're both done, drain the pasta, mix in the cabbage, season to taste. I have no idea why this is so delicious but the first time I made it I cooked it three nights running, and my best friend phoned the other day to say that she had done the same. Eat on its own, or with garlic bread, or it goes well with pork chops (despite it having been given me by a rabbi).
Cheers.

allrecipes.com has some good recipes, but is more geared for the intermediate cook, and from what you say by your screen name, I'd start with the basics and gradually go on to more challenging recipes......Remember, baby steps, start slowly and don't stress.........Cooking is supposed to be a joy, even some people see it as therapeutic..........Hell, I'd rather cook than go and see a "shrink" (psychiatrist)!!! :)
